Great potential in hydrogen in future sea transportation

The results are in, and it is looking good! Together with our 9 project partners funded by the Danish Maritime Fund, we have released the joint report with the very promising conclusion that there is great potential in hydrogen as an alternative fuel in future sea transportation.

With today's technology, it is both feasible and advisable to retrofit Danish domestic ferries with hydrogen fuel cells. The hydrogen can be produced from surplus electricity from wind turbines, of which Denmark has abundant supply. For some Danish municipalities operating domestic ferries, the saving potential could amount to a total of 25% reduction on CO2 and emissions on a yearly basis.
