On 24 May 2023, Technical University of Denmark DTU awarded the contract for the technical project management of the building of Dana V, Denmark’s new research vessel, to Danish ship designers OSK Design. The technical project management consists of providing technical advice and project management in the design process and construction of Dana V.
Dana V will replace Dana IV, which is over 40 years old. Dana IV is Denmark’s only research ship that can sail on the big oceans and in the Arctic. The ship is from 1981 and both technically, research-wise, and environmentally outdated. Therefore, there is a need for a new research vessel, the Dana V.
Dana V is owned – like Dana IV – by DTU but can be used by all Danish marine research environments. The new research ship will constitute a unique Danish research platform and will support a wide range of research disciplines. The ship is also a prerequisite for DTU's performance of tasks for the Ministry of Food and the Environment in relation to research and monitoring of fisheries, living marine resources and the marine environment. Furthermore, Dana V will also be used for training, e.g. of future maritime engineers, and for testing new green ship solutions.
OSK Design will be supporting DTU AQUA all the way from configuration of acquisition procedure, user requirement specification, budgeting, and planning, through design validation, shipyard EU-tender procedures and contracting, plan approval and finally building site supervision, testing and shipyard delivery.

The new ship is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
