On January 1st 2024 OSK Design was selected by OS Energy GmbH and MPC Capital to complete the tender design and basic design for the company’s new next-generation hybrid survey vessel. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the maritime industry's push toward sustainability and innovation.
The initial design, launched in 2023 by the "Project Zero" team, focuses on incorporating hybrid technologies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the overall environmental footprint of the vessel. OSK Design’s expertise will help refine the design into a fully optimised, pioneering hybrid vessel that meets both operational and environmental standards.
Key features of the new vessel include:
- Hybrid propulsion system: A combination of methanol and diesel engines, complemented by a large battery bank for hybrid propulsion, ensuring optimal fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.
- Advanced DP capabilities: Equipped with a rudder propeller and pump-jet for superior dynamic positioning (DP) capabilities.
- Maximum consumable tank capacity: Designed with maximum tank capacities to extend operational range and reduce refueling frequency.
- Multifunctional work deck: The vessel will feature a versatile work deck including a moon pool, deck crane, A-frame, boat landing for CTV, container socket, sonar boom, and more to support a wide range of offshore tasks.
Esbjerg Shipyard A/S has been awarded the shipbuilding contract, with plans to construct six sister vessels, five of which are optional. The keel laying for the first vessel is scheduled for Q4 2024, with delivery expected by the end of Q1 or beginning of Q2 2026.
“We are incredibly honoured to be selected for such an exciting and forward-thinking project,” says Ulrik Tander, Senior Naval Architect at OSK Design. “Our team is eager to work alongside OS Energy and Esbjerg Shipyard to create a vessel that not only pushes the boundaries of hybrid technology but also serves as a model for sustainable marine operations worldwide. Together, we are working to deliver a next-generation vessel that aligns with the future of offshore operations and environmental responsibility.”
